A historical fort, an array of beautiful churches and miles and miles of golden sand, what more can you ask for? A dash of sparkling blue water, of course!
Situated in the North Goa, Aguada beach is a popular place for tourists and locals alike. The beach is famous for the Aguada fort that overlooks it, creating an enchanting balance between the Old Portuguese Empire and the modern world.
The fort, originally built for protecting the banks of river Mondovi from invaders, houses the central jail now.
How you’ll get there:
Being 19 kms away from Panaji, hiring a taxi or a motorbike is the best thing to do. You can, on the other hand, also hop on to buses from Panaji which will drop you near the beach.
What’s special here:
There are a lot of things to see once you get there: the fort, the lighthouse, (which by the way, was the first one to be built in Asia), and the beach. If that doesn’t gratify your senses, there are some very beautiful churches waiting there as well. Religious or not, you can not ignore the beauty of these churches, most importantly, the Ries Magos.
Things to do:
Besides walking on the soft sand, visiting the lighthouse, admiring the fort, paying visit to the churches, and lying back to relax, there are plenty of other things you can do: visit the cafes on the beaches, shop from the roaming vendors who are ready to surprise you with the things they have to sell and try your hand at water sports!
Why you’ll not forget it:
The old charm and the serenity of the place, which is rare to find on beaches these days, can be found here. The contrasting blend of a captivating fort and the freeing sea is a magic in itself. The old fort and the beautiful sea wait for you!
