Like any other state in India, Goa is also filled with a large number of temples, devoted to one of thousands of gods in the Hindu religion.  Goa has a large Hindu population, which attends these magnificent temples. The various temples found in Goa are as follows:

Brahma Temple:

Located in the village of Brahma Carambolim, this is one of the few temples dedicated to the god Brahma. The temple dates back to 5 AD.

Shri Bhagwati Temple:

500 years old, the temple of Shri Bhagwati is a magnificent sight, situated just 7 kms from Pernem. The temple is dedicated to an incarnation of goddess Durga, the goddess Bhagwati Ashthabhuja, the goddess with eight hands.

Shri Datta Temple:

Shri Datta temple is believed to cure people of mental illness, and thus attracts many devotees. The temple is dedicated to Holy Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.

Ananta Temple:

Dedicated to lord Ananta, this beautiful temple is situated at Ponda Tauka, a few kilometres from Marcela. It’s a uniquely built temple, with no dome on the top, but a pyramid like structure. The temple, along with the main temple for lord Ananta, also has Shantadurga, Kamini, Narayan and Grampurush temples.

Shri Kalika Temple:

The Kalika temple is one of the most famous temples in North Goa. It is situated at a distance of 14 kilometres from Mapusa. The temple has a grand architecture with a huge gold kalash on top of its dome. Along with the architecture, the various rituals performed in the temple are also of interest. There is also a stage on which, various plays and dramas are organised at the time of festivals. The travellers can find food and places to stay near the temple.

Shri Mahadeva Bhumika Temple:

Famous for its annual festival of Gade, the Mahadeva Bhumika temple is situated at a distance of Kasarpal, which is soon going to be developed as a tourist village. The festival of Gade is celebrated for three days in the month of March and it is believed that at this time, People can have darshan (sighting)  of ‘Devchar’ and hence, a large number of people come here from every part of Goa.

Ramnathi Temple:

Ramnathi is one of the incarnations of lord Shiva, and worshipped here in Goa with great respect. The temple was built in 1566 AD and renovated in 1905. The annual festival or the Jatra is celebrated with fervour and the traditional Palanquin parade in temple carrying the idol of the deity of the temple.

Shri Chandranath Temple:

Also known as the Chandreshwar temple, this temple is centuries old, and is set atop the Chandranath hill, Quepem. This temple was built by the king of Bhoja dynasty and is dedicated to Shri Bhutnat or Chandreshwar.  The way to the temple is through a road, leading to a climb of great granite steps. The temple’s architecture is beautiful and the aura around is peaceful and serene. A unique thing in the temple is the Siva Linga, placed out of the temple, carved out of stone. It is said the water oozes out of the Linga in full moon night when the moonlight falls on it.  Impossible as it may sound, people around the temple, state this as a fact!
